The four men who were nabbed by police on Sunday in Berbice in connection with the boat and engine stolen from The People’s National Congress Office at Kwakwani, Berbice River, have been taken to the E&F division where they are likely to be prosecuted.
The four men were captured at separate East Berbice locations after they allegedly stole the Blue and white fiberglass boat and the 48 HP engine worth $2M on Saturday. After stealing the boat they made their way down the river. One view was that they would have committed crimes then make their getaway by water.
The boat engine is used by the party to conduct its business in the riverain areas.
After the lawmen got word of the stolen boat they quickly went into action and nabbed the first two at Tain, Corentyne. The men it is understood hail from Linden and Kwakwani. Further investigation and interrogation of the men led to two others being arrested in the East Bank Berbice area.
It is understood that the second two men who are from East Bank Berbice, were arranging markets for the items, when they were captured.
Further investigations led the police to the waterfront at Sisters, East Bank Berbice, where the boat was moored.
Investigations are continuing and it is understood that the lawmen are looking for at least two others who it is understood had travelled with the boat.
Yet it is understood that things are not as straightforward. Two of the men who got arrested showed up in Kwakwani and was recruit workers. They were reportedly desperate to come out for the Mash parade in Berbice.
They were expected to load some particulars for the other two guys and then head to Berbice the next morning for the Mash parade.
Turns out that the boat and engine were stolen and the two recruiters started to panic when they heard their boss talking to someone called Imran.
The source said that the conversation was about the sale of a 48-horsepower Yamaha engine and boat.
The two recruit workers reportedly asked to be let out of the boat somewhere along the Berbice River. They later turned themselves in to the police and have been to cooperate fully with the police.
