Dear Editor,
I am a resident of Rosignol Village, West Bank, Berbice; I am concerned about the post office in Rosignol.
For the past years the Rosignol Post Office is in a state which is not pleasing to the community. I am aware that the building was given a “make-over”.
It was painted on the inside; however, it is my concern that the outer appearance of the building was not taken into consideration during this process. Why was only the inside of the building rehabilitated and not the outer area? Why was the fence left in a state of almost collapsing?
For the years that have gone by, the GPOC seems to be concerned only with the amount of money that has been lost or missing due to the building, staff and/or other persons; whereas in my case I am taking into consideration the safety of the people living there, working there and persons who transact business there on a daily or regular basis.
The company needs to make sure that the building is protected with security; lights; that the dilapidated fence is properly reconstructed and fix the broken doors and windows.
There will be many losses if something should happen to anyone of the offices, the people who are most likely to feel the impact are the persons who work at the post office, persons who uplift their pensions and persons who go about transacting business there regularly; however, above all it is the company itself that would shoulder this burden of loss since it is their responsibility to ensure the work place is a safe environment.
These are the consequences that will follow if proper action is not taken to ensure the safety of the persons who are in or around the post office. I am depending upon the management of the GPOC and the area manager to do their job efficiently
