A 61-year-old woman is thankful for her life and has expressed gratitude to two guards who prevented what she opined would have been a “major tragedy” from happening early yesterday.
The guards, who did not hesitate when they saw a man jumping Margaret Clarke’s fence, are stationed at the home of the Minister of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon, in Guyhoc Park, Georgetown.
The incident, which reportedly occurred around 01:45 hrs, has left the elderly woman, who resides alone at the Lot 89 Guyhoc property (adjacent to the Minister’s home) traumatized.
According to information, one of the Minister’s guards was in the guard hut when he noticed that someone had jumped the elderly woman’s fence and was trying to enter her home via the louvre windows in the lower flat of the property.
Persaud allegedly notified his colleague and the two guards chased after the bandit who managed to escape.
In an interview, a terrified Clarke said that she was awakened by the sounds of her dogs barking. “When I got up, I look around but I didn’t see anything, so I went back to bed. Then a little after I heard the dogs barking again and when I look out the window, I saw the police.”
The elderly woman said that she was unaware of what had transpired. “When I went and talk to the police that’s when I know about the man who tried to enter my house,” Clarke stated.
Only last Sunday, armed bandits attacked a family residing a short distance from the home of the Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan in Delph Street, Campbellville.
Occupant, Geetanjalie Ramotar was beaten, bound and gagged by the armed men who escaped with $55,000.
And, on another occasion, a couple living a few houses away from Ramjattan was attacked and robbed by two bandits.
Nandkishore Lulla, owner of Price Rite Store on Regent Street, and his wife had just arrived in front of their Lot 14 Delph Street, Campbellville property when two armed men approached and opened fire on them.
No one was injured but the armed men escaped with over $100,000.
