Reckless riding in the vicinity of Houston turn on the East Bank of Demerara caused the death of 50-year-old Kendrick Mitchell of Lot 3 Barnwell North, Mocha, yesterday.
At the scene of the accident, the man’s body lay on the median beside the electrical pole that he slammed into, before he met his demise. His motorcycle, CF 2932, was hurled several feet, ending up on the middle of the road.
According to a workmate of the dead man who was present at the scene, Mitchell is a father of three and an employee of Ready-mix. He was on one week’s leave that started on Monday last, given that he was suffering from severe chest pains.
He said that the man appeared to be returning home from the hospital, since he noticed the police picking up an x-ray that was beside Mitchell’s body.
According to an eyewitness, the motorcyclist was heading up the East Bank and was overtaking an army truck, when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with an electrical pole on the turn.
The eyewitness said that it appeared as if the man died on spot, because he was bleeding profusely through the ear, and never moved after the collision.
