One world leader, obviously frustrated at efforts or lack thereof, in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, has urged just call a ceasefire while labelling actions of its ally, whom it gave unstinted support, as ‘mistake’ making (Al Jazeera).
Meanwhile another world leader, also an ally, boldly proclaimed his country ‘will not block arms sales to Israel’ even as such sales is not unconditional, (Al Jazeera).
All of this amid a looming Rafah offensive, a wartime Eid for Palestinians, continuing deaths and injuries, ICJ’s orders being defied and horror stories of men, women and children going hungry.
So while one speak of mistake and ceasefire, another speaks of continued arms sales. Is it too late for the former and a gamble for the latter, in an election year?
Is there a collective will to see an end to this war? Some day the wind will carry their laughter instead of their scream.
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
