The Eid-ul-Fitr celebration is here once again, and the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) would like to extend warm greetings to all Guyanese, particularly our Muslim brothers and sisters. Eid-ul-Fitr is a time when Ramadan, a period of fasting, comes to an end. However, it’s essential to note that this celebration is not only about fasting, but it’s also a time for practicing love, perseverance, kindness, forgiveness, and tolerance – the fundamental qualities of Islam. Ramadan is a time of worship, reflection, and meditation, but Eid is a time for celebration, marking the end of the holy month. It’s also a time to renew bonds of kinship, friendship, and peace while demonstrating love and tolerance.
During times like these, it’s important to remember the values that bring us together as humans. They remind us of our shared humanity and the importance of social justice. Additionally, it’s crucial to recognize and appreciate the diverse religions that make up our nation and contribute to our cultural richness.
As we celebrate together, let’s take this opportunity to extend a hand of friendship to one another, and strive for lasting harmony in our relationships. Despite our differences and disagreements, let’s approach each other with compassion, peace, and understanding. May the spirit of Eid inspire us to continue working towards a world of peace and tolerance. Let us pray that Allah showers His blessings on humanity and guides us towards a path that leads to a better tomorrow, where empathy, tolerance, and general well-being prevail.
Regards,
GAWU
