Bharrat Jagdeo and Joseph Harmon are two sides of the same pea. Jagdeo is crowing about the PPP votes obtained in the 2018 LGE and Harmon is sulking and being petulant. It is unfortunate that he lashed out at supposed PPP supporters and claimed that they are responsible for the PNC’s diminished number of votes at the 2018 LGE.
Despite Jagdeo crowing that the PPP received a large majority of the votes at the LGE 2018 and LAAs, and the analysis of all our contributors to the media, the simple fact is that citizens were just not interested. I was not even aware of where my polling station was located. I checked the possible places in my neighbourhood before locating the polling station.
Persons do not see the LGE as important. The 2018 LGE is not a reflection of what will happen in 2020 or any other elections in the near future. Jagdeo is not smart as he thinks he is. He has taken the PPP from a beacon of good it was in 1992 and turned it into a magnet for opportunists.
Harmon is wrong about the supposed PPP supporters undermining the government. The problem is that it is gross incompetence all over the country, and especially in the government ministries and agencies that is the problem. This is what obtained under the PPP and is the same under the current PNC-led government.
It is the PNC supporters who are primarily responsible for the failure to implement the policies of the government due to incompetence, and this is failing the government and country. Harmon is aware of this. It is anger that resulted in him resorting to such an ugly outburst that belongs in the 70s and early 80s. Harmon has contravened Granger’s much touted social cohesion, I wonder if he will face any sanction.
