Dear Editor,
It is not often that you can say something nice about a government office in Guyana. I am happy to report that I have that opportunity. I was called to the Department of the Environment, Office of the Presidency on High Street for an interview. I was greeted by quite possibly the most enthusiastic polite public servant in Guyana. She showed me to a seat and then enquired from the interviewers when I will be called and returned to let me know. She was so enthusiastic that I was so pleasantly surprised I was smiling.
In the interview room, I was greeted and interviewed by two females, the director and a project coordinator. They were so professional, relaxed and behaved as colleagues and not superiors. They asked pertinent questions that assessed my relevant skills to the position. It was done with such ease and grace I was again taken aback given my experience with interviews in Guyana. They reminded me of the professional women you meet across the Caribbean region. I would like to say congrats to this office. They are doing several things right.
