Dear Editor,
It was in 1948 that Clinton Rossiter first published his masterpiece “Constitutional Dictatorship”. The AFC one-day National Conference set to take place January 28, 2017 at Vreed-en-Hoop exposes an attempt at constitutional dictatorship. If one reads Article 19 of the AFC Constitution it says clearly that “…. no member is allowed to serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office…” but yet we find both the sitting Leader (Ramjattan), Chairman (Hughes), and General Secretary (Patterson) are all re-running for their third term. When one cannot even respect one’s own party rules, can they be expected to respect the national constitution? But as a point aside, these same people have major issues with Jagdeo’s 3rd term attempt but none with their attempt to butcher the AFC Constitution.
But it is interesting the choice of location, in the middle of Harmon-town. I was advised that the Minister of State is so popular in the Vreed-en-Hoop/Phoenix Park area that nothing can happen there without his input and that he was instrumental in mobilizing and supporting the AFC Conference. It is on his say so that the AFC was allowed into Vreed-en-Hoop. Is this a sign that the AFC has finally been “Harmon”-ized? Is this why only 40 delegates are being assigned quite dictatorially by the AFC cabal to Berbice out of a total of 275 delegates?
The result of this toxic concoction between the PNC and AFC and now dead WPA is rapidly destroying what is left of the APNU purpose from 2015. Just like how the Civic element of the PPP died years ago and in its dead form was strung along by the PPP for what it was worth, the PNC is trying its very best to drag along a now dead AFC and WPA for what it is worth. But history has illustrated such a strategy once exposed will fail and the AFC is now at it final funeral rites in Harmon’s backyard compliments of Harmon political muscle.
This is testament to the political failure Khemraj Ramjattan really is. This is a manifestation of how overrated a politician Ramjattan really is. First he was propped up by the Americans in 2006 and 2011 and they dumped him, so he ran to the PNC to prop him up in 2015 and not even a year after, they have “Harmon”-ized him.
Today Ramjattan stands exposed for the political opportunist he really is. History will castigate him as one of Guyana’s most overrated politicians who failed to deliver anything good for Guyana. Our people stand worse off today because of his political play in 2015.
