Dear Editor,
I wish to congratulate the Commissioner of Police for breaking the monopoly in relation to a single funeral parlor (Lyken) to transport deaths from unnatural causes.
This move will definitely lift the standards and ultimately, benefit the relations of the deceased. My relative, Shiraz Amir Ali was murdered last week, Monday October 19th.
The police summoned Lyken’s Funeral parlor to pick up the body which they did. They were also responsible to return the body of our relative for post mortem at GPHC on Wednesday October 21st .We were present at GPHC to witness the post mortem with the police. Lyken’s funeral parlor arrived late at GPHC with the body resulting in the post mortem not being done on our relative. We are poor people and our relatives traveled from Berbice for this funeral to Good Hope, ECD on Wednesday 21stOctober. The post mortem was performed on Friday October 23rd.
In addition, the storage of dead bodies at this parlor’s service needs to be reviewed by management of the parlour. In closing, this is the kind of service you get where there is no alternative funeral parlor. When there is competition, the standards will be lifted.
Thank you once again to Mr. Seelall, Commissioner of Police for breaking the monopoly.
I hope other agencies learn from this.
Boyee Mohamed
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
