New Amsterdam Killers terminated the efforts of its opponents as they took the crown of one day Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) El Dorado 2013 Town Day dominoes competition played last Friday at the New Amsterdam Town Hall.
Nine teams participated in the competition which went down to the final sitting with both New Amsterdam Killers and Terminators ending on 91 games each at the end of the competition. However the Killers were given the nod on the count back of sixes amassing 11 to Terminator’s nine. The harmless BEES had their sting taken out of them early as they finished a distant third on 77 points.
Terminator with two players, Bishnu Ramsingh and Ivor Roach, both
scoring the maximum 18 games, had only themselves to blame for not terminating their opponents in the final round, the lack of killer instinct by their captain definitely causing them the title. With one game needed in the final table the team’s captain Kaiune Glen failed to register a game and became the second love bird for the evening, joining BEES skipper Compton Thom as the other.
The other placing show Neal and Massy also on 77 games placing fourth followed by Taliban on 72 games, Guyana Defence Force 69, DDL El Dorado 66, with Big 6 and Guyana Fire Service ending on the cellar position with 61 games each.
The winning Killer team received the DDL El Dorado Trophy, $8,000 and a hamper. Terminator collected $4,000, a trophy and a hamper for placing second, while the BEES received $3,000 and a hamper.
DDL Regional Manager Albert Budhoo in brief remarks stated that the company was pleased to be associated with the New Amsterdam Town Day activity.
He said that it was imperative for the company, with major operation in the town, to give back something and to be integrally involved in the activity. He also stated that it is only one way that the company gives back to the community from where it garners support. He noted that he was very pleased at the level of competition which was displayed.
New Amsterdam’s Mayor Claude Henry in his remarks thanked DDL for coming on board and collaborating with the Municipality. He extended congratulations to the Management of DDL and participants especially the winners. (Samuel Whyte)
