Professional bodybuilder Sylvan Gardner will leave Guyana today ahead of this weekend’s Musclemania Universe Championships to be held at the Miami Beach Resort, June 28-29.
The Five time Central American & Caribbean Bantamweight Gold medalist disclosed that he is well prepared for the competition and seeking to conquer the opposition in winning his category.
He has been preparing since October last and says that he is in pristine shape for his fourth appearance at this competition.
The Buddy’s Gym Instructor who won his Pro Card in 2008 in New York disclosed that he will be competing a bit heavier this time and this is due to the intensity of the competition at this level. He is aiming to weigh in at around 156 six more pounds than his 2011 weight at the said competition.
Some 500 athletes are expected to be competing at this Musclemania Universe Championships which began back in 1991 as bodybuilding’s first and only tour of world class level staged competitions.
Gardner who will be returning on July 1, is expressing gratitude to the following sponsors for their efforts in making his attendance a reality: IPA, Buddy’s Gym, Wartsila, Giftland Officemax, Farfan & Mendes, Ansa McAl, Julius Variety, Ray’s Auto Spares, Sanjay’s Jewelry, Cultronics, Da Silva’s Optical, Courts, Akbar Auto Sales, Gym mates and other friends.
The following categories will be contested: Open Men – Lightweight – Up to 155 lbs. Middleweight – Up to 175 lbs. Lightheavyweight – Up to 195 lbs. Heavyweight – Over 195 lbs.
Junior Men (22 years of age & younger) – Lightweight – Heavyweight.
Women will compete in one division as will the Masters (Over 40 Years of Age). The Professional Division will be Prequalified Only.
The respective weight classes will be determined at the show following registration.
