Dear Editor,
In Kaieteur News (20-11-10) you have someone writing in strong and dare I say blind defence of the GuySuCo Board of Directors.
This person stated that, “the current Board of Directors, Mr. Editor, I’d like to opine that, while it can be agreed that GuySuCo does have its fair share of challenges; the current board members should not be placed with their backs against the walls in defence of actions they had no control over.”
What the writer failed to state was which specific issues did they not have control over, Did the board not have any control over the resignation of Errol Hanoman from GuySuCo as CEO? Did the board not make the decision to purchase the Skeldon Factory from the Chinese, who had no experience building a sugar factory of this scale vs. an Indian company who built 80 successful projects of similar size and even bigger?
If the board has no control over how to manage the company be it internal or external factors affecting the performance of the organization, then who should be accountable, the sugar workers in the field?
This misguided individual further went on to state that, “While the Board of Directors has changed since the factory was constructed”, this is completely false, show me who was on the board when Skeldon was decided to be built and show me who are the new people on the board. Is the failed CEO from CLICO the only new person on the board or are there others?
What about the Chairman of the board and Mr. Donald Ramotar, were they not on the board since the decision was made to purchase this factory from the Chinese?
This person who wrote this letter has no clue what they are writing about but I digress.
This person further goes on to rationalise in their own mind, “there would have been little that the then board could have done relative to oversight of the actual technical input of the factory’s construction. As far as I know, board members are professionals in their own right with vast experience in various aspects of the corporate industry.
While they tender their knowledge and skills to whatever industry they are managing, they are by no means – or should be experts at factory construction, sugar production etc, to use the current situation as an example”.
Is this letter writer on this planet or on mars? If they have no experience in sugar production why are they on the board?
The problem is the majority of the persons on the board are completely incompetent – square pegs in round holes.
The letter writer should have listed all the members of the board and state what their relative experience was in whatever industry they are supposedly masters of.
I can assure this letter writer that Donald Ramotar or Geeta Singh Knight, who should be facing a grand jury right now in my opinion but that is another matter, nor Raj Singh have any experience running any business. I would not trust them with my grocery shopping.
