Dear Editor,
I have been noting with dismay the interventions of the former Police Commissioner, Mr. Winston Felix, in his hypercritical comments on the performance of the present administration in relation to our crime situation, and his latest in which he decries those in the present hierarchy for not having allowed the DEA office to be set up before.
This is true to form in that persons who were responsible for the affairs of our country in the past seem unable to think of the greater good of our nation, set aside their petty differences, and contribute their experience and knowledge to help to solving our problems in a cooperative spirit. Instead we find that more and more many such, who were in the higher echelons of our public service, are indulging in gaining political mileage by criticising the workings of the present administration, and doing nothing to contribute to our progress.
What amazes me is that someone who was in charge of the police force should continue this futile practice when we all know that the police force from our Independence has been notorious for a culture of corruption and lackadaisical attitude, which was certainly the case in his time, and which was then inherited from his stint in office.
Is it not about time that we in this small nation combine our efforts at advancing its affairs, regardless of our own selfish ambitions?
Roy Paul
