Dear Editor,
I write this letter to commend Wikileaks founder Mr. Julian Assange in his brave role in leaking highly confidential and important information in the Embassy of Georgetown cables.
Wikileaks has been described by Time Magazine as “Could become as important a journalistic tool as the Freedom of Information Act.”
In Guyana, there is no real transparency as both the ruling party and opposition are at loggerheads over nasty political games where they may hide certain information from the public so as to prevent any scandals from ruining their reputation.
The Wikileaks documents from Guyana provides an objective approach on certain aspects and scenarios in Guyana which were either considered by the politicians as being a rumour, a case of slander or something that should not be believed.
Most Guyanese are fed up of these games that the politicians play on a daily basis. Wikileaks has been proven to be more credible in providing information to countries where highly important information is restricted, such as the case of Guyana.
I am surprised to read the possible theories that were generated in a letter that was written between two officials in connection to the death of former Cabinet Minister Satyadeow Sawh.
The letter suggests that the opposition, the ruling party, a suspected money launderer of an aqua farm or a drug lord named Roger Khan were deemed to be considered suspects. I strongly urge Guyanese to read the Wikileak cables.
As I write this letter, will the guilty try to implement ways to suppress freedom of speech? Well in Guyana maybe. But as long Wikileaks is around, Freedom of Speech and Information is firm and solid.
