Dear Editor,
I write in response to the recent report in the media which stated that the police confirmed that dredges were operating in Kaieteur National Park. If this report is indeed true, we find it strange and disappointing at a time when His Excellency President David Granger made a commitment at the recent Commissioner of Inquiry with Chenapou Touchao about Mining, Governance and Protected Area to establish an independent impartial investigation team. As a humble nation we totally respect and await the findings or outcome on this crucial and critical sensitive issue before we could release any media or press statements.
It must be noted however, observation was made about the incompetency of persons managing the Kaieteur National Park and are probably misleading and ill advising the president. Noted also, that due to the misleading advice and false information, our people are facing social atrocities caused by persons tarnishing our people’s excellent reputation.
Presently we honour his Excellency’s commitment on this sensitive issue and we will refrain ourselves from issuing any public statement until this investigation comes to an end.
We wish that the Kaieteur National Park Commissioners and Chairperson honour his Excellency’s commitment. Stop pussyfooting with people’s lives and act more honest and professionally. It would be more beneficial for us Guyanese and not be seen as managers of a cartoon network.
