DEAR EDITOR,
There should be public outrage after reading that six runway lights at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) were discovered missing.
The report also stated that several five-gallon containers of fuel were also seized, since fuel was stolen from the airport in large quantities.
Please be reminded that we are talking about unauthorised people going onto the runway at our International Airport.
Government must act and act very fast to remove all and I do mean all security personnel from top to bottom from our International Airport.
If these people are not removed immediately then I, like many others, am afraid of what to come next as long as unauthorised people are allowed onto the runway. No one can blame the squatters who are squatting in and around our airport area.
It is the Government to be blamed for allowing squatting there in the first place. It is the Government who must be in charge of security of our International Airport.
I always urged Government not to turn a blind eye to certain things and allow them to become the norms.
Government often turns a blind eye to illegal squatting and illegal vending until it gets out of hand.
Then when it gets out of hand there is big ruckus to have these people removed. Government must stop these things as soon as they spring up.
Like one writer said, Forbes would gave bulldozed those squatters long before come hell or high water. No unauthorised person must ever be seen on the runway at our International Airport at anytime period.
Are we to believe that there is no round the clock security at our International Airport? This has to be most frightening.
