Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh is one thing to dead from old age, and is another thing to dead from driving next to a container truck in Guyana.
De other day, Dem Boys was cruising sweet, minding dem own business in the right lane. In de left lane was a big, tall, rusty container truck swaying like a drunk man coming out a rum shop. Dem Boys seh, “Nah bai, we ain’t tekking no chance wid dat.” So Dem Boys slow down.
Next ting yuh know, Popo pull up and start to question Dem Boys like is a CID investigation. “Why yuh ain’t overtake de truck?” de Popo ask. Dem Boys seh, “Bossman, yuh ever see wah happen when container fall? We rather reach home late than reach St. Peter early.”
De Popo start to laugh like is joke. But Thursday night by DSL turn, was no joke. One container decide it had enough of traveling and jump off de truck like it vex. BAM! Land pon de road just suh.
Now imagine if some poor soul was driving next to dat truck. Dem family woulda been planning funeral service before de weekend done.
Dem boys seh de real danger on Guyana road ain’t pothole, it ain’t madman on bicycle, it ain’t even them GT bus drivers who think dem is Formula One racers. Is dem container trucks dat holding on to dem load with one rusty strap, two prayers and a piece of hope.
Sometimes yuh see dem container truck leaning like dem got scoliosis. Dem moving slow, swaying left and right, and people still driving next to dem like dem invincible. Dem Boys seh yuh head hard or yuh brakes gone?
Drive next to a container truck in Guyana and yuh playing Russian roulette with yuh life. One lil breeze, one sharp turn, and yuh become breaking news.
Dem boys seh, “Stay far from container truck like yuh staying far from politician promise.”
Because while container might carry goods, dem can also carry you straight to heaven. Dem boys seh drive safe and live to seh yuh seh.
