Kaieteur sports – Laured “The Lion” Stewart is ready to unleash his power once again as he prepares to face Mexican fighter Carlos Valenzuela Gonzalez on June 28 for the Universal Boxing Alliance (UBA) Cruiserweight title.
The six-round showdown will be one of the undercard bouts on the Brandon Quarles vs Axel Vega fight card in Mexico, and Stewart is promising fireworks.
“I’ve been in camp, putting in the work. Training has been going great,” Stewart told Kaieteur News as he gears up for what will be his sixth professional bout.
A soldier in the United States Army, Stewart revealed he recently took some time off to recover from an injury sustained during military training.
“It’s a six-round fight, and yeah, I picked up a knock during Army training, so I had to take a couple of weeks off. But I’m fully recovered now. I head to California on the 26th, the fight is on the 28th, and I’m ready,” the smart-talking boxer said.
Known for his ferocity in the ring, the Guyanese Cruiserweight is building a reputation as a knockout artist.
In his last outing, he dismantled Imran Khan with a brutal fourth-round KO at the Everest Cricket Ground.
That victory marked his fourth win out of five fights, all by knockout. His only blemish? A Majority Decision loss to Jalen Renaud in 2020.
On June 28, Stewart said he isn’t just chasing a win, he’s hunting a knock-out.
“I’ll use the first three rounds to study him, then I’m going for the knockout,” he declared with confidence.
His opponent, Carlos Valenzuela Gonzalez, brings a record of eight fights, one win, one draw, and six losses. But Stewart isn’t overlooking him. “He’s coming to fight too, so I’m preparing for what he has to bring to the ring.”
Stewart said he’s focused, and ready to leave his mark in the sport.
