Kaieteur sports – Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, recently returned to his home county of Berbice. During his visit he made a number of stops at various places to get a fist hand look as to what is taking place.
One of the places visited was the Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMTC) on the Corentyne. Over the years the PMTC has been one of the top cricket clubs in the country and has produced a number of national and Test Cricketers.
During discussions with the members present, the minister made a number of promises. A number of which were fulfilled. Within short order, several young cricketers were presented with cricket gear in an effort to assist them in developing their skills.
Minister Bharrat was unavoidably absent to do the handing over. However, former Guyana and West Indies cricketer, Devendra Bishoo, did the honours on behalf of the minister.
During his earlier visit to the club, Minister Bharrat was keen in engaging the young cricketers. During the engagement, he imparted words of encouragement and wisdom to the cricketers.
He told the youths of the importance of education and the need to maintain discipline in the sport in an effort to develop their skills.
Before leaving Minister Bharrat donated a cover for the cricket pitch to the club.
