Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – In 2020, the PPP wanted an African Guyanese to fill their prime ministerial role. They knew the value, worth and integrity of Dr. Terrence Campbell. They knew how honest he was and respected his relationship with Indo-Guyanese and the people of Guyana.
The PPP knew that Campbell’s relationship with African Guyanese would put them in good stead. It was clear to the PPP that Campbell was not only a unifying figure but also an altruistic, kind and genuine Guyanese filled with humility. They wanted a people’s person, a successful man and a brilliant manager.
The PPP reached out and Dr. Campbell politely declined the prime ministerial candidate role. He could not, in principle, support a regime of men and women who were corrupted and steeped in division. He respected, too much, all the people of Guyana and decided to reject the second most powerful position in Government.
Dr. Campbell is an enigmatic man. In his presence, one senses not a complex person but a pure one. He puts you at ease instantly. His personal achievements in business are testimony to a young man who came from nothing but with discipline and purpose attained unimaginable success.
Dr. Terrence Campbell said, NO to the PPP but said YES to a broad coalition barring not a single ethnic group. We must not say no to him. There is nothing stopping an outright win in September with Dr. Campbell heading the coalition. Nigel Hughes knows that and can publicly say that. Aubrey Norton knows that too. Dr. Simona Broomes knows it. We all know it.
What Campbell will bring to the coalition is not only energy that will fuel a feverish campaign with no limitations. He brings hope for the unity we all need to confront and defeat the PPP. Amanza Walton will not refuse to support a coalition with Dr. Campbell leading it and Dr. Campbell will not refuse to support a coalition with Walton Desir in the lead.
I have spent a lifetime fighting for the liberation of Guyana and I love my country unconditionally. You can criticise me on many of my views and how I sometimes relate but you know where my heart is.
Finally, anyone chosen from within the APNU or AFC to lead will still see disagreements between the two parties. There will be quiet dissatisfaction and that can affect the fervour and energy needed over the next three months.
The PPP is praying for Dr. Campbell not to lead the coalition into the elections. Ask President Ali why?
Sincerely,
Norman Browne
