Kaieteur News – President Irfaan Ali on Thursday evening praised the contributions of Chinese nationals living and working in Guyana, describing them as an important part of the country’s national development.
He made the remarks during a reception at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, held to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and to welcome China’s new Ambassador, H.E. Yang Yang.
President Ali highlighted the strong and evolving partnership between the two nations, pointing to cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, health, education, technology, and culture.
“We salute the invaluable and the visible contributions of the People’s Republic of China to Guyana’s development. Our cooperation spans a broad spectrum from agriculture and education to infrastructure and health,” the president said.
He underscored Guyana’s commitment to inclusivity through the “One Guyana” initiative, stating that all nationalities who contribute to Guyana’s progress are appreciated.
“Chinese nationals living and working in Guyana are therefore an important part of our national development,” President Ali stated.
He added, “…as Guyana forges ahead with this transformative development and our social agenda. We see China as a long-standing friend and partner in our journey. We are confident Guyana rises to new heights. China will be there offering friendships, partnerships to advance mutual benefit and development.”
Meanwhile, newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Yang Yang said she is committed to building on the strong bilateral ties between the two countries. “I will spare no effort to work with the Guyanese government and all sectors to write a new chapter in China-Guyana relations,” Ambassador Yang Yang said.
Ambassador Yang also reaffirmed China’s support for Guyana’s development goals and pledged to promote deeper people-to-people exchanges, economic cooperation, and global collaboration.
“We are committed to take our relations to a new level on the basis of mutual respect…. We regard Guyana as a key partner in the Caribbean and Latin America, and firmly support Guyana in pursuing your own development path. And we are committed to take our relations to a new level on the basis of mutual respect,” she noted.
The ambassador added, “We are also willing to work with Guyana to tap deeper into cooperation potential, and to expand our collaboration from traditional areas such as energy, mining, infrastructure, and agriculture to emerging fields like the digital economy, green development, and artificial intelligence.”
The event was attended by government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from the Chinese and Guyanese business communities.
