A United Kingdom-based Guyanese man, Sylvester Medor, is frantically searching for his mother, Noelina Medor, who has disappeared, along with her male guardian.
Sylvester Medor recently returned to Guyana to place his mother in a foster home, after he began to suspect that the guardian was using the money that he, Medor, was sending, for purposes other than for the care of his mother.
Police have confirmed that they received a report from Sylvester Medor and are investigating the matter.
Medor returned to Guyana in November 2007 and found that his mother, whom he had not seen in 40 years, had been placed in a home for the elderly by her alleged guardian and the guardian’s reputed wife.
The man made it clear that he first met this ‘guardian’ when he returned to Guyana in 2007.
Medor and his mother had a misunderstanding several years ago while they were living in the UK together, and he said that he had not spoken to her since. She returned to Guyana.
However, he claims that he was sending money for her on a regular basis, despite the fact that they were not speaking.
According to Sylvester Medor, he gave the guardian money for the time the man had been taking care of his mother.
He then told the guardian that he would prefer to have his mother in a foster home and he moved her into the Palms.
But Medor said that the guardian insisted that he could take care of Medor’s mother and as a result they entered into a verbal agreement, in which Medor would send money to pay for his mother’s room, board and other miscellaneous expenses.
In the wake of this agreement, Sylvester Medor returned to the UK while the guardian reportedly took Noelina Medor from the Palms shortly before Christmas of 2007.
But according to Sylvester Medor, the man began to request money whenever he would call to see how his mother was doing. Sylvester Medor said he sent approximately $40,000 in December 2007 and again in February last.
By this time, Medor said he was beginning to get suspicious that the guardian was using the money for his personal expenses rather than for taking care of Noelina Medor. He alleged that all the money orders were made out to the man’s reputed wife.
Upon returning to Guyana in September 2008, Sylvester Medor went to the house where his mother had stayed and discovered that no one was there.
He then contacted the man’s reputed wife on her mobile phone. Medor said that a woman answered but insisted that she was not who he thought she was. This led to contact with the police.
According to him, when the police called the same mobile number, the woman identified herself.
The police then took her into custody but released her after one day.
Kaieteur News was told that the woman claimed that she had broken up with her reputed husband since June 2008 and that she did not know of his whereabouts or that of Noelina Medor.
However, Medor said he is convinced that the woman is lying.
Is this oil a blessing or a curse?
