Gunmen, in last Wednesday night’s attack that left Arjune Narine Singh dead and three others wounded, had used the American-made M-16 assault rifle.
Police say that they recovered some .556 spent shells at the scene, along with some 7.62×39 spent shells which are used in the AK-47 rifle.
Investigators are now trying to ascertain which gang is responsible, since the weapon of choice of most of the gangs operating in Guyana is the AK-47 assault rifle.
A senior Police source said that, from his knowledge, drug gangs have access to the M-16 rifle.
The officer said that Police have concluded that last Wednesday’s attack is not linked to Friday night’s attack on the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport and the Water Chris Hotel.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News understands that Police have been able to ascertain the licence number of the car that was used in Friday night’s attack, and have stepped up their patrols throughout the city.
