Venezuelan man murdered by countrymen at Goed Fortuin
The construction worker’s body in front of the Supermarket
Kaieteur News – A Venezuelan man was knifed to death Saturday evening at a Chinese Supermarket located at Goed Fortuin, West Bank of Demerara (WBD).
Police identified the victim as 30-year-old construction worker, Omar Nazareth Martinez Rodriguez. He was killed around 19:40hrs in the vicinity of Panda Supermarket.
He was ambushed by three Venezuelans while heading home in a taxi at the roundabout at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The taxi driver said the men rode up on a motorcycle. Two of them dismounted, opened the car door and assaulted the victim.
The driver said he managed to drive off with one of the suspects still in the car. He later stopped at Goed Fortuin and pulled the suspect off the victim before driving off again.
The driver, however, stopped at Panda Supermarket to make a purchase, leaving the victim in the car. Shortly after, he saw the victim running towards the building with the suspects chasing after him.
It was there that they stabbed and killed the construction worker.
Police said they managed to arrest two of the suspects later that evening at La Grange Old Road (WBD).
