Kaieteur News – A Sheriff Security guard was on Monday evening stabbed to death on Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown by a woman who is also attached to the same security service.
The deceased has been identified as 63-year-old Paul Devonish. In custody is 29-year-old Nicosie Clement. The incident occurred at approximately 18:30 hrs.
According to police, an 18-year-old male security guard, also employed with Sheriff Security was on duty at Teleperformance on Barrack Street, Kingston, when Devonish visited the location and allegedly used a series of abusive language towards a female guard and then confiscated her phone.
As a result, the teen intervened and told Denonish he was wrong to take his colleague’s phone and he should return it. Devonish then dealt the 18-year-old two slaps to his face. The teen then left Devoinish and the female guard and went to the doctor’s quarters located at New Market and Main Streets, where Clement was on duty with his mother, Vanessa Jones.
The teen told Jones what transpired and she advised him to remain at New Market and Main Streets and later Clement will accompany him to retrieve his lunch bag. While on their way heading east on Barrack Street, Clement and the teen were approached by Devonish who was riding an electric bike from the opposite direction.
“The victim (Devonish) told the 18-year-old that he was lucky he did not ‘box off’ his head. The suspect (Clement) intervened and asked the victim why he was taking advantage of the teen, to which the victim then asked her if she had come to represent the teen,” police said.
According to the police, a scuffle ensued between Devonish and Clement during which the suspect pulled out a knife from her pants pocket and stabbed the victim on his left upper thigh. Devonish was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
It is alleged that Clement threw the knife away in the Lamaha Street trench, after which she returned to work, uplifted her belongings and went to the teen’s home where she was arrested. Police said that Clement admitted to stabbing Devonish during a video/audio interview. Several persons were questioned and statements were taken as investigations continue. Kaieteur News has confirmed that Devonish was off duty when he met his demise.
