Kaieteur Sports – Executive Coordinator of the 2025 Deputy Mayor’s Cup Seven-a-Side Inter-Ward/Village Football Tournament “Night of Finals”, Lennox Arthur, has informed that the event has been put on hold until after National Elections fixed for September 1, 2025.
The former National Footballer and Coach disclosed that he was told that the Guyana Police Force (GPF) are in line as they prepare for duties during these national elections, with the military voting today ahead of the September 1 main schedule.
The tournament has reached its latter stages with the quarterfinals, semifinals and final set for Wednesday August 27th. However, after the elections a decision will be taken in collaboration with the GPF to arrive at a suitable date for the conclusion of the anticipated event in honour of Deputy Mayor Denise Miller.
The scheduled games were and are to be contested when the new date is set are: quarterfinals – Albouystown vs Stabroek Ballers, Soesdyke vs Liliendaal, Bent Street vs Uitvlugt and Back Circle B vs Pele. The winners advance to the semis, then the losers of the semis will play for third place and the winner for the championship.
Over $1.1 million in cash and prizes are up for grabs, with the champions set to walk away with $500,000, hampers courtesy of longtime sponsor Rick and Sari Enterprise, and the championship trophy.
Runners-up will also be rewarded: second place earns $300,000 and hampers, third $200,000, and fourth $100,000. In addition, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive a brand-new motorcycle, donated by Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken. Assistant Commissioner Errol Watts and Deputy Commissioner Ravindrauth Budhram have also contributed by sponsoring trophies for the Most Disciplined Team and the Highest Goal Scorer.
