Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Junior Lady Jaguars continue to fly the Golden Arrowhead with pride, after finishing as Group ‘C’ winners at the 2025 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Girls’ Under-14 Challenge Tier II Series in Trinidad.
The spirited young Jaguars advanced to the semifinal stage unbeaten, capping off the group phase with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Cayman Islands on Tuesday. That result followed three consecutive victories; against Antigua and Barbuda, Turks and Caicos, and Anguilla, securing Guyana 10 points from four matches to top the table.
Despite the many challenges faced by the sport locally, this group of girls has proven that with determination, unity, and proper preparation, Guyanese football can stand tall on the regional stage. The Junior Lady Jags have displayed tactical discipline, defensive resilience, and attacking flair, earning admiration across the tournament.
What makes this accomplishment even more inspiring is the diversity of the squad, which brings together players from Guyana’s hinterland, coastland, and urban communities, reflecting the very identity of the nation.
Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President, Wayne Forde, hailed the team’s accomplishment, saying: “On behalf of the Guyana Football Federation, I warmly congratulate our Junior Lady Jags on their historic achievement in winning their group at the CFU U14 Girls Championship. I am immensely proud of you – you have made every Guyanese proud. Your courage, talent and character are an inspiration to your peers and to generations to come.”
Forde also underscored the wider significance of the achievement: “This team embodies the true identity of our nation, celebrating our cultural and ethnic diversity as an example of what is possible when we trust and believe in each other. Stay focused, the job is not yet complete, and we wish you every success in the playoff.”
The 2025 edition of the CFU Challenge, a FIFA-CFU collaboration designed as a developmental competition, brings together 23 member associations competing in two tiers. Launched in 2018, the tournament serves as a vital introduction to international football for the region’s boys and girls.
As the semifinals loom, the Junior Lady Jags remain determined to make their mark. Their journey so far is not just about results, it is about representing Guyana with pride, unity, and belief.
