…Says changes to existing students’ records billing system in progress
Kaieteur News- The University of Guyana (UG) on Saturday reiterated that tuition and facilities fees are free but noted that it is working assiduously to adjust its invoicing modules in the Students Records Management System (SRMS) in time for the new academic year beginning September 2025.
The university in a statement said, that changes to the modules are being made in compliance with the government’s directive that tuition for all Guyanese students admitted to the premiere tertiary institution is being funded by the state from January 1, 2025.
“Since the State and not the students are paying the cost per student, the invoice still needs to be generated in the SRMS but it is not payable by the student. The fix is that Guyanese students should not see this invoice. A glitch in the change-over process has allowed some students to somehow still see this invoice which is not billable to them,” the statement said.
The University said it appreciates the error being flagged and regrets any inconvenience that may have arisen as a result.
“The technical team has since moved to correct the glitch. We deeply appreciate the consideration and gracious patience of our students as the necessary changes to the new system are made and tested in the coming weeks.”
In April, UG in a statement said that “tuition is free from January 1, 2025, for all new and continuing students for Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programmes offered by the University of Guyana.”
