-49 years ago, Suriname won their first series
Kaieteur Sports- Twelve talented Guyanese young women were named by Head Coach Willon Cameron to suit up for Guyana in their much-anticipated two-game series against Suriname, set for today and tomorrow, August 10–11 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Leading the charge will be Europe-based professional Joy Adams, who was named Captain of the Squad.
The other members of that squad are: Amisha Ramlall, Ashna Ramlall, Arshia Ramlall, Jamaicy Ogle, Junelly Paddy, Keisha Copperfield, Kassidy Woolford, Malia Samuels, Akeelah Campbell, Brean Ritchie and Keane Andrews.
According to Statistician Charwayne Walker, the inaugural clash between the two teams was in April 1976 at the same venue.
The Guyana female team then was Captained by Barbara Small and Suriname won that historic clash by two games to one. The other members of the Guyana team then included Avril Edmondson, Bernadette Scantlebury, Valerie Callender, Carmen Small, Paula Macey, Sandara Armstrong, Sylvia Cyrus, Patsy Russell, Joy Merchant, Delores Duncan and Patricia Waterman.
