Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – The upcoming General and Regional Elections present an opportunity for the people of Guyana to enhance their lives or to continue living under an oppressive regime. The current government’s strategy involves oppression, subjugation, manipulation, and conquest. They do not hesitate to discriminate against those they perceive as unsupportive of their agenda.
Undoubtedly, their aim is to seize control of the state and weaponize and politicize all state institutions and agencies.
In a small country like Guyana, it is crucial to maintain politically neutral and disciplined public service and disciplined services. However, many state employees are feeling pressured to support the ruling party. This situation fosters corruption, poor discipline, and inefficiency. Additionally, if there is a change in government, a significant level of mistrust is likely to arise.
It is arguably the constitutional right of every citizen to support a political movement of their choice. However, public servants and members of the disciplined services should not openly display their support for any political group. Unfortunately, it has become common for some public servants and members of the disciplined services to openly attend the PPP/C’s political functions and campaign for that party.
The current regime’s hold on power has damaged long-standing personal relationships. Some of my friends who work in state institutions now distance themselves from me due to my criticism of the government, which I understand given their vulnerable positions.
On September 1, 2025, you can vote out the PPP/C. It’s important not to let this government continue harming our society’s political, social and economic foundations.
