Kaieteur News – Amid a flurry of defections from the PNCR, Chief Whip of the Opposition, Christopher Jones on Thursday has called for unity within the party.
In a statement, Jones said the PNCR is a political party for all seasons, noting that it is the political party that led Guyana to independence and statehood and crafted and created the many national government agencies and institutions in service to Guyanese. “The PNC is intricately intertwined into the Guyanese fiber and fabric, and our politics and identity as a nation. Thus, the PNC is more than a political party. It is a national institution. In the words of our party battle song, it is the institution that led us “out of ages of oppression, independent now we stand.”
Jones said throughout its rich history, the PNC has confronted many threats to its identity and existence and has never wavered in defending itself, membership and the Guyanese people. “Our party battle song urged us to “hold the line of battle” as we confront all challenges and uncertainties and not surrender in defence of just causes and threats. As we have seen, some threats challenge our existence. But as a national institution, our existence and purpose cannot be extinguished overnight. There will be low points in our history and trajectory. There will be trials, BUT they will be triumphs.”
Jones said the party will always rebound and survive, because the linchpin of this national institution are people who believe in it and will fight for it to be at its best. “The PNC will continue to lead and fight for the Guyanese people and provide the hope we all need when all may seem lost. In the APNU alliance we will muster all the strength with those that join us to rally the masses “from field to office and factory”. Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat. The PNC is not dead. Let us begin the work to electoral victory on September 1, 2025,” Jones concluded.
