Kaieteur News- A brief friendship between two men ended in gunplay on Tuesday at Culvert City, Lethem, Rupununi Region Nine.
Kaieteur News learnt that the men became travel buddies for a trip to the Region Nine town and had arrived there recently in a vehicle.
One of the men identified only as “Max” was the passenger and had gone to Lethem to do some work while the driver (name provided) accompanied him for the drive and some sight seeing.
Information reaching Kaieteur News are that on Tuesday Max visited some acquaintances at Cultvert city and took the driver along. They were having a few drinks and the driver, according to eyewitnesses, became intoxicated and started using indecent language and expletives towards’ Max’s acquaintances.
Max then reportedly cautioned him about his behaviour but he continued and started arguing with him (Max).
As a result, Max decided to part ways with him on the trip.
“He (Max) tell he (the driver) man le me tek out me passport and thing dem from yuh car”, a source close the investigation told this media entity.
Max then got up and walked to the vehicle.
His actions, however, angered the driver and he resorted to pulling a gun on Max, allegedly threatening to shoot him if he removes anything from the vehicle.
Fearful for his life, Max retreated and made his way down to the police station at Lethem and made a complaint.
When the police got involved, they learnt that the driver was the holder of an expired firearm license and was not permitted to carry the weapon with him.
After detaining him, the driver reportedly attempted to bribe his way out of the situation he had found himself in.
Investigations are ongoing.
