GFF-Blue Water Shipping Girls U15 Football Championship a step into a greater future where talent meets opportunity.
Kaieteur Sports – After five weeks of thrilling football action, 131 matches, and an impressive 233 goals, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is proud to announce the completion of the preliminary round of the 2025 Blue Water Shipping Under-15 Girls Inter-Secondary Schools Football Championships.
The tournament, which kicked off in early May, showcased the very best in youth female football development, with matches played across several districts including Region 1 (Moruca and Mabaruma) and Region 2 (Essequibo Coast). Emerging from this highly competitive stage were standout performances from schools such as Waramuri Secondary, Christianburg Wismar Secondary, Bush Lot Secondary, and Bartica Secondary, all of which topped their respective groups.
The 2025 tournament have seen exceptional camaraderie among the girls both on and off the field.
The preliminary round concluded on June 7, with regional champions being crowned in Region 4 (East Coast and East Bank Demerara), Region 6, Region 7, and both sub-districts of Region 1.
This year’s championship saw a significant expansion, with 21 additional schools participating compared to last year’s 54, bringing the total to 75 schools. Notably, Region 1 (Mabaruma) was introduced as a new district, contributing three new schools to the competition. Other additions came from Region 2 (4 schools), Region 3 (3 schools), Region 4 (6 schools), and Georgetown (5 schools).
Across the country, 131 games were contested, with regional champions emerging in every area; two each in Region 1, Region 4, and Georgetown.
Now, as the tournament is geared to enter the highly anticipated Round of Sixteen stage, which will see the best of the best from Guyana’s U15 girls’ football scene competing for ultimate glory.
The girls will now proceed on a tournament break before kicking off the elimination round on September 27, setting the stage for even more intense action.
The sixteen advancing teams are; Wauna Primary Top, Waramuri Primary Top, Charity Secondary, Abram Zuil Secondary, Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary, West Minster Secondary, President’s College, Dora Secondary, Bushlot Secondary, Canje Secondary, Bartica Secondary, Annai Secondary, Christianburg Wismar Secondary, Mackenzie High School, Marian Academy and Campbellville Secondary.
The teams have been seeded into four groups of four, where they will face off in round-robin play to determine the top eight quarterfinalists.
These group-stage matches will be hosted in four different regions, as community engagement continues to be a cornerstone of the tournament’s mission.
Look out for Marian Academy’s frontline: Georgetown teams will be aiming for championship glory when the tournament resumes in September.
