…snaps up Juretha, Duncan and Ramsaroop
Kaieteur News- A coalition between A Partnership for National Unity and the Alliance For Change (AFC) might be off the table after APNU rejected AFC’s most recent proposal to join forces.
APNU’s latest rejection comes after it snapped up three AFC members, Juretha Fernandes, Sherod Ducan and Deonarine Ramsaroop.
The AFC in a statement on Wednesday night said, “It is now clear the APNU was and is not interested in a coalition”.
In the first proposal, AFC had asked for a 60/40 split. It is unclear if APNU turned them down but the AFC made another one this time proposing a 60/35 split with APNU nominating the presidential candidate and AFC nominating the prime ministerial candidate.
“We were informed on Tuesday 18th that this proposal was rejected”, AFC said while adding, “On this occasion, APNU decided that they must also name the AFC’s PM candidate contrary to the established protocol of the negotiations”.
According, AFC, APNU’s demand is unacceptable.
The AFC further argued, “This last proposal gave APNU all they have been asking for to agree to a coalition and the AFC decided at all costs it would play its role in response to public feedback and the nation’s desire for a unified opposition”.
The party warned too that any private arrangement established without consultation and completely contrary to the established protocols of the negotiations to date is totally unacceptable.
