Kaieteur News – A policeman was air-dashed to Georgetown on Monday after an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crashed into a truck belonging to the Guyana Manganese Inc. (GMI) along the trail to Port Kaituma, North West District, Region One.
The accident took place around noon in the vicinity of the Chinese manganese company’s old laterite pit, leaving the officer severely injured.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News are that the policeman is based at Baramita and was en route to Port Kaituma on an ATV with another police rank on board.
The other rank escaped with minor injuries.
Cell phone recorded videos showed public-spirited citizens rendering assistance and trying to revive the seemingly unconscious cop who was lying face down on the road.
Eyewitnesses said that the injured policeman, whose face was bloody, lost some of his teeth.
Kaieteur News learned that he was initially taken to Port Kaituma Hospital before he was later medevacked to the city.
The injured law enforcement officer is a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
