Here’s part of the action between LTI and GSA as Linden’s shooter drives to the basket during the 23-point win.
Kaieteur Sports – The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) erupted with energy on Sunday evening as the ultimate Tertiary Basketball League, hosted by Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG), delivered two explosive matchups, leaving fans on the edge of their seats and scoreboards tilting in favour of Linden Technical Institute (LTI) and the University of Guyana (UG).
While the regional U18 Basketball Championship barrels toward the semifinals, the tertiary boys showed they’re just as capable of delivering fireworks. And deliver they did.
The Lindener made a grand statement in the first game of the doubleheader, LTI came out firing and never looked back, bulldozing the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) in a 50–27 thrashing. The trio of Rasheed Hinds, Leron Joseph, and Stephen George led the charge, playing with rhythm, confidence, and surgical precision.
Hinds was unstoppable, dropping a game-high of 25 points with a shooting clinic that left the GSA defence scrambling. Joseph added 14 points, while George chipped in 15, showcasing LTI’s depth and chemistry. Despite the loss, GSA’s Dexter Quintin put up a valiant effort with 16 points and 10 rebounds, a silver lining in an otherwise forgettable night for his squad.
In the other matchup of the evening, UG unleashes fury on GTI. If the first game was a beating, the second was an epic annihilation. UG absolutely dismantled Government Technical Institute (GTI) 72–16 in a lop-sided affair that was virtually over by halftime.
Alafin Joseph turned the hardwood into his personal playground, stuffing the stat sheet with 19 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Peter Langevine was a beast on the boards, pulling down 14 rebounds and adding 13 points. Chris Perez and Ronako Vaughn joined the scoring party with 15 points each, as UG’s lockdown defence smothered GTI into submission. It was clinical. It was commanding. It was a message to the rest of the league’s contenders. As said at the launch: UG is not here to play they’re here to dominate.
The league, proudly sponsored by G-Boats Inc., E-NET, Halliburton, and Fireside Grill and Chill, continues this Sunday, June 22, at the same venue. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM, and if this past weekend is anything to go by, fans are in for another round of high-octane Tertiary basketball.
