Kaieteur sports – Guyana Harpy Eagles Assistant Coach Garvin Nedd has praised the duo of Kevlon Anderson and Tevin Imlach for punching their tickets on their way to becoming possible West Indies Test players following their recent selection ahead of the upcoming series against Australia; while crediting his partner, Eagles Head Coach Ryan Hercules for building a winning culture within the young franchise.
Anderson and Imlach alongside mainstay fast-bowler Shamar Joseph were recently named in the 16-man Test squad for the West Indies. The squad features a number of top-performers from this year’s Regional 4-Day season alongside a few returning faces and notable names.
Nedd, the Assistant Coach of the reigning champions Guyana Harpy Eagles and Head Coach of the Guyana U-19 men’s team, who will be winging out for their Regional tournament in the days ahead, told Kaieteur Sports on Wednesday, that the culture and environment which was built for the young players by Head Coach Hercules, was among the key reasons for Guyana’s success as it relates to a number of their players breaking into the West Indies team over the past few years.
The Eagles, formerly known as the Guyana Jaguars during the Leon Johnson era, arguably the best Regional 4-day captain in recent history whose team had already broken a number of Regional 4-Day records, as they won more than a handful of titles during the dynasty reign, seems to be on the verge of remapping similar paths with this younger team who have already won three cups.
Nedd explained, the young Head Coach Hercules, has been doing a great job when it comes to getting the best out of his group of players over the past 3 seasons. He noted that the relationship and the work ethics which has been a key part of the Eagles mandates, is a product of the Head Coach and his mission to make this current team the best in the Caribbean for years to come.
He further stated, “Ryan has been doing a fantastic job with this team since taking over as head coach and I’m happy to see as his Assistant coach, him getting the flowers he deserves; not only by winning titles in Regional 4-Day cricket and his historic CPL title win, but to see his players branching off onto the international scene and playing the highest brand of cricket possible,” Nedd explained.
On the other hand, Nedd who has been working or coaching with the likes of Imlach most notably and Anderson during their Guyana U-15 and U-17 days when Nedd himself was Head Coach across various national youth levels, said he too was pleased to see his boys make history as the newest Guyanese to possibly play Test cricket for the West Indies and against the likes of the legendary Australia.
“I think Anderson would have shown a lot of maturity this season, I think he got to the point where he understands his game and his role more and all of that would have been reflected during this season. For Imlach he is one of the people who is always hard at work and I think it’s the perfect opportunity for him to find his ground and cement his place in the Windies team going forward,” Nedd explained.
In closing, the former national youth player turned coach said he hopes the debutant Anderson and Imlach, who has had some taste of international cricket in recent times, can build on whatever opportunities they will encounter during the upcoming international series versus Australia.
“All in all, I think it is well deserved by the players they would have done well for the Eagles franchise, especially this year I must say well done to them for this series and I hope they can become permanent fixtures in the West Indies team,” he ended.
