Kaieteur News – Guyana rich bad! Oil deh pumping like how water come out ah broken pipe. Exxon and dem oil padnas got balance sheet so fat, if it fall pun yuh foot yuh gun end up in GPHC. Every quarter, dem boys overseas smiling like lotto winner. Is milk and honey fuh dem, champagne and shrimp fuh dem shareholders.
But wha we got? More beggars than benches. More hustlers than jobs. More and more people sleeping on cardboard. Walk round GT and is like yuh tun inna episode of Survivor: Urban Jungle. Some sleeping pun de pavement like dem rent out de corner lot.
One man begging me fuh hundred dollar yesterday. When me seh me ain’t got, he seh, “Boss man, don’t lie—this country rich!” Me nearly drop down laughing. Me seh, “Big man, only de oil company rich… we just living in de brochure.”
Every time dem oil boys post profit, we deh celebrating like is we own money. But check we reality: beggar per capita higher than coconut tree. Every traffic light got two man wid rag and spray bottle, another one wid ah child and storybook tale, and somebody else selling water or simply begging.
But leh we be honest—this nah only government fault. Is all ah we. We quick fuh share de photo of dem sleeping on de pavement, but slow fuh share a plate ah food. We vex when dem beg, but we nah help dem find work or shelter. And some ah we got extra house sitting empty, while people sleeping outside like stray dog.
Guyana can do better. Guyana must do better. Not just fuh Exxon, not just fuh budget surplus—but fuh humanity.
Dem boys seh, if oil make some people billionaires and others bin-divers, then de real leak nah in de well—it in de soul.
Talk half. Leff half
