Kaieteur News – A 72-year-old man was killed on Saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident in Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
The deceased has been identified as Randolph Braithwaite, of 1369 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
In a statement, the police confirmed that Braithwaite was a pedestrian at the time of the incident. The vehicle or vehicles involved have not yet been identified.
According to reports, Braithwaite’s body was discovered lying on the southern parapet of the 3rd Corner, Amelia’s Ward, with “what appears to be lacerations about the body, suspected to be injuries sustained as a result of a motor vehicle accident.”
He was picked up by police ranks and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Braithwaite’s body has since been taken to Jetsco Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, Vanessa Braithwaite, the daughter of the deceased, questioned the circumstances surrounding her father’s death. “The circumstances surrounding my dad’s death are sketchy because where his body was found is away from his home, and he was found without shoes,” she explained. Braithwaite said that she and her family walked the area where her father’s belongings were discovered. “Where we walked and saw where his other stuff that he had was, probably around half a mile like a 15 minutes’ walk,” she added. Braithwaite believed that it was not just a hit and run accident. “His dentures were out, and his slippers and his bag were in a whole different location from where his body was found,” she revealed.
With just days remaining before Father’s Day, Braithwaite tearfully remembered the man her father was. “My dad is very quiet, very loving, very generous. He’s always willing to give. He’s a man of few words,” she said. Holding back tears, she added, “I’m distressed and really sad that he is gone.”
