Kaieteur News- The Ministry of Public Works through its Transport & Harbours Department is preparing to spend approximately $4,817,113,934 to complete phase one of the new modern Port Facility at Parika, Region Two.
With two tender openings for the project, one on May 16 and the other on May 23, the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office revealed on its website on Friday that a total of 24 bids were received for the project. Notably, one of the bidders, the agency stated, “No supporting document seen to identify Bidder.”
The Public Works Ministry had issued a tender for phase one, noting that works are slated to be executed in three lots. In its tender document, the ministry stated that Lot 1 entails the construction of ‘concrete pile foundation and stelling deck superstructure works’, Lot 2 deals with ‘river defence and land reclamation works (northern foreshore)’, while Lot 3 covers the ‘river defence and land reclamation works (southern foreshore)’.
According to NPTAP information, Lot 1 is estimated to cost $3,466,752,184.76, Lot 2 is $675,180,875, and Lot 3 is estimated to cost $675,180,875.
Kaieteur News reported that the project, which falls under the ministry’s capital programme for the year, forms part of the $9.9 billion that was budgeted to the agency to improve the country’s river transportation service.
Additionally, the new modern port is aimed at increasing trade and tourism along the Essequibo Coast.
