Kaieteur News- The paperwork to facilitate the departure of Adriana Younge’s body from Guyana has been finalised, and the 11-year-old’s remains are expected to be flown to the United States this week for a second autopsy.

This confirmation came from Adriana’s mother, Amecia Simon, who spoke with Kaieteur News on Sunday. While unable to provide a specific date, Simon affirmed the departure will happen within the week. “Sometime this week she will leave,” she said.

Simon added that arrangements for Adriana’s body to be flown overseas are progressing smoothly, and the paperwork for her travel is in its completion stage. “So far, so good, everything is set. Just for her body to be flown out,” she stated.

The decision to pursue a second autopsy was first made public on May 13, 2025, by the family’s attorney, Dr. Dexter Todd. He told Kaieteur News that the family had opted for a full forensic review in the United States to be conducted by two US-based pathologists.

Since then, the family has been preparing the necessary documents for Adriana’s body to be flown to the United States. In a previous interview with Kaieteur News, Todd revealed that the paperwork process began on May 16.

During that interview, he revealed the family’s financial challenges in their quest for answers. “It is very costly. The family is bearing the cost of this. Flying a body here is not cheap, and I witnessed them selling everything, pulling everything they own because they just want the answer,” Todd said. “The money is coming out from their own pocket and whatever support that was given, and that alone is surrounding the investigation.”

Saturday marked exactly one month since Adriana’s lifeless body was discovered and retrieved by her father, Subryan Younge, in the swimming pool of the Double Day Hotel at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo. She was found nearly 20 hours after she had been reported missing during a family swimming trip on April 24.

The initial post-mortem examination (PME) was performed on April 28 by government-appointed Barbadian pathologist, Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul, at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). It concluded that Adriana died by drowning. However, the time of death could not be determined, and the toxicology report remains pending.

The PME was observed by two international experts: Dr. Gary L. Collins, Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Delaware, and Dr. Glenn A. Rudner from Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

Unconvinced by the official findings, Adriana’s family formally requested an independent review of the PME footage and supporting documentation. They also requested the involvement of Trinidadian pathologist, Dr. Daisley, in the review process. However, Dr. Daisley has yet to receive clearance from the medical council.

Despite facing resistance and criticism from some government officials opposed to a second autopsy, the family remains determined to pursue an independent investigation. Adriana’s body will be flown to a forensic lab in Atlanta, Georgia, where the second autopsy will be conducted.

The family remains resolute in their pursuit of the truth behind Adriana’s death and is determined to fully investigate the matter without the support of the government and law enforcement.
