Kaieteur News- Dozens of citizens joined members of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on Friday in a protest at the intersection of Middle and Carmichael Streets, continuing calls for justice for 11-year-old Adriana Younge.
Gathering in large numbers, protesters extended from Parade Ground onto the streets, chanting “Justice for Adriana Younge!” in a demonstration aimed at maintaining public pressure on authorities to resolve the case transparently and thoroughly.
At the forefront of the protest was PNCR Leader Aubrey Norton, who pledged continued public demonstrations to ensure the case remains in national focus.
“We will be out in different forms until there is justice for Adriana. That is the bottom line. I didn’t say every week or every day, but we will come and ensure it is kept alive,” Norton told reporters. “The government wants it swept under the carpet. It won’t happen. We have another event planned that will come in another week or so, but there will be other events.”
Norton also voiced the opposition’s support for an independent investigation, including a new autopsy conducted abroad.
“We hope to see that the young lady gets to go to the United States, they have a proper independent autopsy and the findings can be made,” he said, before asking, “What does the government have to hide?”
The protest stems from the public outcry over the controversial and tragic death of Adriana Younge, whose body was discovered on April 24, 2025, in a swimming pool at the Double Day International Hotel in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, less than 24 hours after she was reported missing during a family outing.
An autopsy conducted by three international forensic pathologists, Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul of Barbados, Dr. Gary Collins of the United States, and Dr. Glenn Rudner of Mount Sinai Hospital concluded that Adriana died from drowning. However, questions remain after her body was found in an upright position with visible marks on her skin, raising concerns of foul play.
The family, supported by growing public sentiment, believes the case has not been properly investigated. Further fuelling frustration, the Guyana Police Force initially issued a misleading report suggesting Adriana had been abducted; a claim that was later proven false.
