Kaieteur Sports- Two-time NBA Champion and Hall of Famer Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon is set to arrive in Guyana today, courtesy of the Government of Guyana.
Olajuwon, a 12-time NBA All-Star and the 1994 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), is visiting as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to develop basketball in the country.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., confirmed the visit, noting its significance in inspiring the local basketball community and strengthening developmental plans for the sport.
The 62-year-old NBA legend is expected to meet with members of the basketball fraternity on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, where players, coaches, and fans will have the opportunity to interact with one of the greatest to ever play the game.
Widely regarded as one of the most skilled and dominant big men in NBA history, Olajuwon’s illustrious 18-year career includes back-to-back championships with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995.
His signature footwork, shot-blocking prowess, and finesse in the post have made him a global basketball icon.
His visit to Guyana marks a rare and exciting opportunity for the country’s basketball stakeholders to learn from a living legend, as the government continues its push to elevate the sport at all levels.
