Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh is business people who does pay de most tax in de city. Big tax, small tax, tax when yuh blink, tax when yuh breathe. But wha dem gettin in return? Potholes, blocked drains, flooding, garbage, congestion, and now—no parking!
Dem boys seh yuh cud leave yuh house four o’clock in de morning and still cyah find a parkin spot when yuh reach town. Not because all de business open early—nah, is because vendors done reach since before de cock crow and seize up all de parkin like is land they inherit.
Some of dem even got dem big canter park sideways pun de road, and instead of movin’ goods, dem sellin’ dem right from de tray like is a travelling supermarket. Dem mobile caravans now turnin’ into mobile malls. Only thing lef now is fuh dem hook up a music system and start playin’ DJ while sellin’ bora and boxer.
Meanwhile, de poor businessman who got to pay rent, light bill, VAT, NIS, fire inspection, and probably mosquito inspection too, he sit down inside de shop watchin’ flies fly in and out—but no customer. Why? Because customer cyah find no parkin. All de park-up spot tek by vendors who ain’t payin’ a cent in property tax, or income tax, or even common cents tax.
Dem boys seh de playin’ field nah level—it slant more than de Leaning Tower of Pisa. Vendors tekkin over de pavement, de roadside, even de middle of de road sometimes. Is like a street fair every day—but fuh some, is not fair at all.
Businessmen crying. But when business suffer, dem boys seh is not just profits disappear. Is workers get send home, man cyah pay he rent, and government end up collectin’ less tax.
So dem boys got one solution: give de vendors a parkin lot—and let dem pay fuh it like everybody else. Till then, is chaos and cantankerousness.
Talk half, Leff half!
