Kaieteur News- A 58-year-old man has reportedly gone missing after informing his mother that he was unhappy with the job he had taken and was heading home, as the work turned out to be different from what he was told.
Donald Fredericks, also known as ‘Dodd,’ went missing on April 4, 2025, while at a work site in the vicinity of Hamburg Beach, Essequibo River, Region Two.
During an interview with Kaieteur News, the missing man’s sister, 52-year-old Melanie Fredericks, said her brother was encouraged by a ‘friend,’ to take on a job cutting down a farm in the vicinity of Parika Backdam. But upon arrival, he was unexpectedly redirected to Hamburg Beach.
The sister told this publication that around 14:00h on April 4, “he told my mother (Donald mother), that he did not like the job, and will be coming home.”
However, Fredericks’ mother grew concerned after not hearing from him and decided to call him around 19:00h that same day. When she called, the friend who had encouraged him to go, answered the phone and said he did not know Fredericks whereabouts.
The sister related, “He (the friend) told her that he did not find Dodd … he then told my mother that he don’t think my mom is going to see back Dodd, so my mom asked him why and I don’t know if he answered her whatever but my mom got worried.”
Thereafter, the family immediately began searching. Frederick’s brother, along with other relatives, visited the island on April 8, 2025 and looked for him, but each attempt remained futile.
The family informed this publication that searches were done for him at the riverbanks, and forested area around the job site but no trace of him was found. Despite searching the area for a week, the family could not have located Fredericks.
The family expressed frustration and fear that something unfortunate may have happened to Frederick.
The matter was reported at the Parika Police Station. The investigations are ongoing.
