-Eight exciting matches to kickoff the ultimate Inter Ward Football showdown
Kaieteur News- With just two days to go before the ultimate kickoff, 32 spirited Inter Ward/Village teams are gearing up to launch their campaigns in the premier seven-a-side Knockout Football Tournament.
The Deputy Mayor’s Cup offers community teams the chance to battle for supremacy in a fun, fast-paced tournament, scheduled to run over four nights at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, from Wednesday, April 30 to May 14.
Crowd favourites like the indestructible Bent Street, Back Circle, Stabroek Ballers, Gold is Money, Z-Tekk, Espanyol, and others will be in action this Wednesday and Thursday, promising an electric start.
The 2025 edition is already buzzing with excitement. Stabroek Ballers’ stars Sherman Welch and Mark Jahlu have signaled their intent to dominate. Meanwhile, sharp shooters like Randolph Wagner, along with the Pedro brothers (Jamal and Hubert) are eager to lead Gold is Money back to championship glory, beginning with a face-off against Back Circle ‘B.’
For Back Circle, standout players Jermaine Beckles, Stephon McLean, and Simeon Moore are ready to kickstart the tournament with an opening win against Albouystown. Bent Street, no strangers to championship glory, will rely on Adrian Aaron, Daniel Wilson, and Beveney Marks, as they take on Kitty Stars in what promises to be another thrilling clash.
Another team to watch is North Ruimveldt Ballers, boasting an impressive lineup featuring Joshua Brown, Jermaine Padmore, and Jamal Jackman, all aiming to make their seven-a-side dream a reality.
Expect four nights of pulsating action as 32 teams battle for the coveted first-place trophy and a grand $500,000 cash prize. The rewards don’t end there: second, third, and fourth-place finishers will share a further $1,100,000 in cash and prizes, with second place earning $300,000, third $200,000, and fourth $100,000.
