Kaieteur Sports- Essequibo Legends produced a fine all-round-performance to beat Untouchables by five wickets last Sunday when action continued in the 2025 Essequibo Softball Cricket League (ESCL) T20, over-40 competition at Reliance ground, Essequibo Coast, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Chasing 166 for victory from the allotted 20-overs, Legends reached 170-5 in the 18th over.
Middle-order batsman Rajesh Gopaul led the way with 43 while he got valuable support from Tameshwar Sanicharan with 42.
Their most inform batter Imam Gafoor contributed 18 on this occasion at the top.
Former Essequibo senior Inter-County player Ravi Beharry grabbed two wickets for 30 runs from his maximum four overs.
In Untouchables’ innings, Jeetendra Jimmy stroked a top-score of 61 which contained four sixes and three fours.
Sunil Bissoon added 32 as Seow Sankar grabbed 4-37 from his four overs. Sankar launched his outstanding spell by removing the prized wicket of Beharry for 02 before helped wrap up the innings as Untouchables were all out for 165 in 19.4 overs. Sankar received assistance in the bowling department from Cort Livan who finished with 3-21 (4).
In other three encounters, Queenstown got a walkover from Devonshire Castle while defending champions Caribbean Cricket Club also got the same result from Reliance Sports Club.
Hibernia Strikers also claimed a walkover from Richmond United.
The 8-team competition will continue this Sunday with four more preliminary-round matches at various venues across the Coast.
The competition is expected to conclude May 25 at a venue to be named with the grand finale.
The winning team will take home a trophy and $100,000 while the second-placed team will cart off $50,000 and a trophy as well. Most other cash incentives for excellent, individual performances.
