Kaieteur Sports- Daram Seeram missed out on a fiery century after remaining on 99 for Hibernia Strikers who thrashed Essequibo Legends by 88 runs last Sunday in the continuation of this year’s Essequibo Softball Cricket League (ESCL) T20, Over-40 competition.
The right-handed Seeram struck seven sixes and nine fours as his team amassed a formidable 286-3 at the expiration of the 20-overs.
Their oppositions, Essequibo Legends, in response, reached 198 all out in exactly 20 overs at Affiance ground.
The rampant Seeram and Deon Wallace put together an enterprising, unbroken 135-run for their fourth-wicket.
Wallace hit a swashbuckling 71 which comprised of seven sixes and four boundaries as his contribution.
Faizul Mohamed was also among the runs with a cameo 29.
Seepersaud Sankar was the most successful bowler for Essequibo Legends by taking 2-47 from his maximum four overs.
When Essequibo Legends batted, the inform Imam Gafoor scored a fighting 38 while Sankar returned with the bat to prove his all-round capability by making 30.
Meanwhile, in the three other fixtures, there was no game after three teams failed to show up.
Defending champions Caribbean Cricket Club 2 got a walkover from Richmond United while Queenstown Tigers also gained maximum points after Reliance Sports Club could not have fielded a team.
The other team that claimed a walkover was Untouchables after Devonshire Castle also was a no-show.
However, the 8-team, round-robin competition is slated to continue this Sunday with four more matches at various venues across the Essequibo Coast, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
The competition is scheduled to conclude May 25th at a ground to be named. The top four teams after the preliminary round will contest in the semi-final segment.
The champion team will take home a trophy and $100,000, trophy and $50,000 will be awarded to the runners-up side and more monetary prizes and trophies are up for grabs.
