AAG names record-breaking 42 athletes for 2025 CARIFTA Games

Kaieteur Sports- The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has announced a 42-member team for the 2024 CARIFTA Games, the largest delegation the country has ever selected for the event since its inception in 1972.
The CARIFTA Games was commissioned 53 years ago a commemorative championship to mark transition from the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Athaleyha Hinckson will look to add the U20 100m gold to her historic collection.
The team will be accompanied by eleven coaches and officials for the competition, which will be held at the Haseley Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago from April 19 to 21.
This year’s team nearly doubles last year’s representation, when Guyana sent 23 athletes to St. George’s, Grenada.
There, Guyana placed fourth in the medal standings behind Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Trinidad and Tobago, with a total of eight medals, four gold, three silver, and one bronze.
Returning gold medallists Tianna Springer (U20 400m), Malachi Austin (U20 400m), and Athaleyha Hinckson (U17 100m) will once again compete in their signature events to defend their titles. The fourth gold medal in 2023 came from the Mixed 4x400m relay team.
Hinckson, who also picked up a silver medal in the U17 200m last year, will return alongside Kaidon Persaud, who excelled in the Boys’ U17 800m. Attoya Harvey, who earned bronze in the 3000m, will make her final CARIFTA appearance this year.

Several standout athletes from this year’s National Secondary Schools Championships will make their CARIFTA debuts, including Ebo McNeil, also a National Junior Table Tennis Champion, who dominated the 3000m, 1500m, and 800m events.

Advanya Glen (1500m U17), Kaymayra Lacon (800m U17), Angel Jeffery (U17 100m, 200m), Shaquan Shepherd (U17 1500m, 400m), Ade Sealey (U17 1500m, 5000m), Timothy Smith, Jonathan Richards (100m U20), Skylar Charles (100m U20), Bryson Anderson (800m U17), Danangelo Smith (Relay only), Adessa Albert (U20 100m, Long Jump), David Williams (Long Jump U17), Walton Alleyne (200m U20), Tianna Springer (400m U20).
Ebo McNeil (U17 1500m, 3000m), Deuel Europe (U20 Triple Jump, Long Jump), Ethan Cort (Decathlon U20), Kaidon Persaud (U20 800m, 400m), Afi Blair (Relay only), Nathaniel Samaroo (U17 Shot Put, Discus Throw), Cort Anthony (U20 1500m, 5000m), Ezekiel Millington (100m U17), Devon Easton (U17 800m, 1500m), Jamie Fraser (U20 Shot Put, Discus Throw) and Lamar Yaw (Relay only).
Guyana will also compete in several relay events, including the Mixed 4x400m, Female 4x100m (U17 & U20), Female 4x400m (U17 & U20), Male 4x100m (U20) and Male 4x400m (U20).
Coaching and Management Staff includes Johnny Greavesande, Kenisha Headley, Dwayne Cater, Kariem Aaron, Aretha Legal, Timothy Sealy, Vanesa Wickham, and Adessa Albert. Twana McCalmont will serve as the team’s Safeguard Officer.
President of the AAG, Sheryl Hermonstine and General Secretary James Coles will be the country’s representative at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Congress, being held in conjunction with the CARIFTA Games.
